Modern Workplace 3.0: VZ Depotbank on its way to becoming Switzerland's most digital bank

VZ Depotbank, with 230 employees, has set itself the goal of becoming Switzerland's most digital bank by 2025. Thanks to the introduction of «Workplace 3.0» it is actively driving forward its digital transformation. This improves the efficiency of internal processes, increases customer satisfaction, and enhances its attractiveness as an employer. In a second phase, the remaining 1,600 employees of the VZ Group were migrated to the cloud.

Key measures include the introduction of Microsoft 365, the use of the Power Platform for process automation, and the implementation of modern tools such as Microsoft Teams, OneDrive, and Windows 11. This will enable the bank to respond more quickly to technological developments and strengthen its long-term competitiveness.

Initial Situation

VZ Bank already ranked eighth in a study on the digitization of banks in 2022 and improved to third place the following year. To continue this trend and strengthen its competitiveness, the bank decided to further expand its digital presence.

The main goal of the «Workplace 3.0» project is to modernize the work environment and accelerate digital transformation. The introduction of Microsoft 365 and the Power Platform is intended to increase the efficiency and quality of internal processes. This new solution will enable VZ VermögensZentrum to respond more quickly to technological developments and market trends, which should have a positive impact on customer satisfaction, deposit growth, and the acquisition of new customers. Employee satisfaction also plays a key role: a modern, digital working environment strengthens innovative capacity and helps to attract and retain talent in the long term.

Solution

The technical solution included the introduction of Microsoft 365 as a central collaboration platform, the automation of business processes using the Power Platform and Robotic Process Automation, and the implementation of Microsoft Teams as the main solution for telephony and collaboration. In addition, mailboxes were migrated to the cloud, Windows 11 was introduced, and tools such as OneDrive and Microsoft ToDo were integrated into everyday work. The project was organized in various streams, with isolutions providing overall project management. These streams covered the areas of business, change & adoption, technology & security, and cross-functional project management.
