PraxisNet: Connecting Students and Internship Placements Efficiently
Introduction
Initial Situation
Practical professional experience is highly valued at the University of Teacher Education FHNW. Each year, hundreds of aspiring teachers complete multiple internships during their studies, directly within their future professional environment – the classroom. To ensure that matching between students and internship placements runs smoothly and intuitively despite the variety of degree programs and campus locations at FHNW, a digital solution with comprehensive allocation, filtering, and reporting capabilities was required.
The main challenge lay in the optimal assignment of internship locations, the alignment of subjects and levels between teachers and students, and the consideration of special requirements such as tandem internships, which are only possible in certain study programs. The number of variations to be mapped was therefore considerable. Since the existing, historically developed solution had reached its limits in terms of functionality, flexibility, and performance, with little scope for further adaptation, FHNW identified the need for a modern, up-to-date application. The goal was thus to implement a system that represents the complexity of matching students with internship placements in a simple and efficient way.
Solution
With PraxisNet, isolutions developed an innovative and user-friendly web application built on the EduArt framework, which centralizes all the complex and diverse processes of the various degree programs in a single system. This enables all programs, despite their differing process and internship models, varying application and allocation procedures, and different communication channels between management, students, and internship providers, to use a common tool. PraxisNet maps this complexity in one solution and is therefore available to all internship offices. As part of the implementation, individual processes were also standardized and optimized, resulting in significant time savings.
Key highlights include individual allocation via drag-and-drop and the convenient application for internship positions directly through the platform. In addition, management, internship providers, and students each have their own dedicated access, tailored precisely to their needs and relevant information. The solution was developed using state-of-the-art web technologies as a single-page application based on .NET and Blazor. As a result, FHNW now has a powerful, user-friendly, and secure platform that is optimally designed to meet both current and future requirements.
Benefits
Intuitive User Interface
The online internship marketplace allows students to quickly find suitable internship placements and apply for them directly. Staff and students benefit from a modern, intuitive user interface that simplifies the use of the platform.
Powerful Student Management System
The system provides centralized management of students, teachers, and schools (or clinics in the Speech Therapy program), supported by powerful filtering and allocation functions as well as convenient drag-and-drop operation. Data is seamlessly synchronized with SAP and the student management system.
Automated Billing and Payments
The automated billing and payment of fees, along with efficient communication via a multilingual template system, ensure smooth operations. The platform combines standardized processes with individual customization options and provides a user-friendly self-service portal.
Continuous Development
Through continuous development and automated deployment, the application remains up to date, while operation and support are reliably provided by isolutions.
