More targeted Accident Prevention Measures thanks to new Accident Database
Seilbahnen Schweiz (SBS) is the leading association of the Swiss ropeway industry with around 350 members of the approximately 500 ropeway companies from all regions. As the industry representative for large to small ropeways, Seilbahnen Schweiz represents the interests and concerns of its members and promotes their cooperation as well as sustainable development. This results in a broad spectrum of activities, ranging from representation vis-à-vis authorities to member consultation and public relations. It also operates a training center for junior staff and provides basic and advanced training for specialists in the field.
Initial Situation
The accident database is one of the core applications of Seilbahnen Schweiz and the most important tool for recording and analyzing accidents and incidents in ropeway operations. Due to the choice of technology at the time, the existing application could no longer be adapted to today's standard requirements for safety, user-friendliness and data protection. A modernized accident database should additionally improve the quality and timeliness of the data, expand the evaluation options and optimize interfaces to other systems.
Solution
With the new accident database, all members of Seilbahnen Schweiz can quickly and easily record and manage any accidents online. Via a mobile app, patrollers can record photos and GPS coordinates directly on site. This saves time and avoids errors due to subsequent transmission. All form data can be exported as PDF or Excel. The collected data can be evaluated for statistical analysis over several years. The new solution is designed to store sensitive personal data and meets the highest data protection and data security requirements. New users register via a self-service function. The fine-grained assignment of access rights controls the visibility of data, and multi-factor authentication protects against unauthorized access to the application and data.
Technologically, the solution is based Azure Platform Services such as Azure SQL Server and Azure Blob Storage (data), Azure AD and Azure AD B2C (identity and access management), Azure App Service with .NET Core and Blazor (backend and user interface).
The project includes the transfer of all functions from the existing application, the migration of all historical data into a new database and the continuation and extension of the existing interfaces to other applications. By optimizing data exports for statistical analyses and Excel exports, expandability for the connection of Power BI dashboards/reports is ensured.
Benefits
- Thanks to the findings from the accident database, the number of accidents in Switzerland is reduced with targeted measures.
- Members, with their own accident recording software, transmit their data via an interface. This guarantees seamless integration and high data quality.
- The central recording of accident data also allows the automated transfer of accident data to partners such as the Federal Office for Accident Prevention.
- An audit log records all changes to data, ensuring transparency and security in the event of legal disputes.
